Hurst Shifter retainer installation

I've posted this in two other sections, but it doesn't seem to get approved in those, so try number three.
I'm replacing the retainer clips in a Hurst comp+ shifter, but not sure what is the proper way to smash them into the receiver.
Looking for any tips.
