I have 2 Edelbrock R4B Intakes one has a bottom pad and the other has none, will the intake work with no pan on the bottom.
Also one intake has Am numbers on it the other has none?
Please help John

Yes the manifold will work fine with out the pan on it. The R4B with the AMC part # is a dealer purchased or dealer installed manifold where as the non-part # is a over the counter secondary market purchase. They are otherwise identical. The part # manifold is worth more than non, if that figures at all into which one you will use. I also have both and when I was using the R4B I went with the non,just in case.

The pan that is attached to the bottom of the intake is a heat shield. Without it you'll notice your engine will use oil but you won't be able to find the source. Oil that hits the bottom of the intake will burn off. You'll never see a leak or smoke.
