engine interchange By year

Would anybody know what year engines will bolt up to my 68 AMX .I was thinking of buying a 360 to put in my car but I don't know what engines will fit as far as the year goes. I mean will a 81 360 bolt in my car . My car is a 4 speed car if this helps If you can help please email me direct Thanx Jim jamesx@twlakes.net

All (66?) 68up AMC V8 will bolt up, 290-401. I know the automatic trans requires a little attention, pre '71 BW automatics have a different size pilot than the '72 up Torqueflites. But I am not sure how that works out with the manual trans. if they have different pilot bushings or what.
