Fuel Pump / Vacuum Pump Question
I have a 1968 AMX 390. Have had it for years and a previous owner used the car for drag racing and supported the engine mounted fuel pump with an electronic fuel pump. The interior membranes in the mechanical fuel pump have failed allowing fuel to spray out of the two side holes of the mechanical fuel pump, so I have removed it and am just using the electronic pump. The old mechanical pump is a duel fuel pump with the vacuum pump on top. Sine I have removed the mechanical pump, I have no vacuum to run the wipers, brake booster of manifold vacuum.
Anyone have a suggestion of what to do to get back the needed vacuum? Can I use an electronic vacuum pump and if so, any suggestions? To be honest I do not think the mechanical pump has ever worked since there is absolutely no wear marks on the shaft leading from the pump to the cam shaft.
Thank you. Wanna gt this thing back on the road.....
