1977-80 AMX power team questions?
Could an expert confirm that the following points are correct? Thx.
AMX: 1977 and 1978 power teams involved 1bbl 258 I6 & 4 speed manual as standard, with 2bbl 304 & 3 speed auto optional. 304 unavailable with 4 speed.
1979 AMX available with 1bbl 258 I6 + 2bbl 304, both available with 4 speed manual and 3 speed auto.
1980 AMX only available with 2bbl 258, 4 speed manual standard equipment.
304 powered AMX not available in California in 1977-80 period.

1977: Standard was 258 CID 2-Barrel 6-cylinder engine w/4-speed; 304 2-barrel optional with 3-speed auto floor shift transmission.
1978: Power team: 258 CID 6-cylinder engine; 4-speed manual floor shift transmission (automatic floor shift (Optional at extra cost and is required with 304-V8 engine). The California AMX uses the 258 CID engine with 1 barrel carburetor and the 4-speed transmission.
1979: 258 CID 2-Barrel 6-cylinder engine (California 1 Bbl); 304 2-barrel optional. Either with 4-speed manual standard or optional 3-speed auto floor shift transmission.

Thanks for that. Also, I believe the 2bbl 258 I6 was rated at 110 hp in 1979 MY, did it carry the same rating in 1977/78 and 1980?

The Standard Catalog of American Motors shows the ratings as:
258 2-barrel in 1977 = 114 hp @ 3600 RPM, 192 ft lbs torque @ 2000 RPM
258 2-barrel in 1978 = 120 hp @ 3600 RPM, 201 ft lbs torque @ 1800 RPM
258 2-barrel in 1979 = 110 hp @ 3200 RPM, 210 ft lbs torque @ 1800 RPM
258 2-barrel in 1980 = 110 hp @ 3200 RPM, 210 ft lbs torque @ 2000 RPM
1978 should be confirmed as the book does have a small typo in the listing of V8 and six so it makes it a bit difficult to read. The others are in line with the TSM ratings.

Thanks again, yes, and I believe the 2bbl 258 first came out in 1976 MY as a performance option for the Pacer (not available on any other AMC car that model year) and was rated at 120 hp for that model year (1976) too.
According to Car & Driver:
120 hp @ 3,400 rpm / 200 lbs/ft @ 2,000 rpm
